TELEGRAPHY

The earliest form of telecommunication was by means of smoke signals. The smoke from a fire could be temporarily interrupted by covering the fire with a blanket. Telecommunication evolved from the semaphore of Claude Chappe, to the telegraphs of Cooke and Wheatstone, Morse and Baudot. Morse printers were available in the late 1800s from various manufacturers including Siemens&Halske. In 1931 the famous Creed 7b teleprinter was introduced, allowing tekst to be printed remotely.
