ERICSSON XY SELECTOR
The XY selector uses the same shared wirebank concept as the Ericsson AGF. But instead of rotating and translating, the contact wipers move in perpendicular X and Y directions. Also, instead of having the selectors powered by a shared motordrive, the wiper movement is controlled by electromagnets. The XY selectors were initially used in small automatic exchanges for offices and rural villages. They became known as AHD exchanges. Later, the American company Stromberg-Carlson acquired a licence. They built larger exchanges based on the XY selector. The exchange in Anchorage had 10,000 subscribers.
