ERICSSON N583

The N583 is an example of a simple corded switchboard. My specimen has 5 extensions and 2 cord circuits, but Ericsson produced a variety of configurations. When a caller turns the magneto generator of his/her telephone this causes his/her extension flap to drop and the bell to ring. The operator restores the flap and inserts his/her red telephone plug into the caller’s jack. He/she asks for the required number, and connects both extensions using a cord circuit. The flap of the cord circuit drops and the bell rings when the caller turns his magneto after the call. This alerts the operator to pull the cord circuit.

I have wired my N583 to my small CB935 switchboard using extension 4. This allows simulation of a connection where more than one operator is involved.
