BELLS

Many early telephones did not have built-in bells. They required separate bells or a bellset. Most telephones of later date could connect an additional bell, that was installed, for example, in a hallway or even outside the house.

Bellset 41 was used on Party Lines where people share a line to the exchange. It prevents bell tinkle on one of the users when the other user dials out. A full wave rectifier bridge and a slugged relay wil only connect the bell after a full burst of ringing current is received.
